Archive for the ‘Checklist for Obama’ Category

My Camera Editorial Advisory Board comment published on Jan. 17, 2009, in response to the Camera’s question: On Tuesday, President-elect Barack Obama will be sworn into office. What do you think his objectives should be?

Obama’s stated agenda is to end the war in Iraq, provide health care for all, protect America and renew American global leadership. He talks about rebuilding public schools and colleges and about a “new” America.

Obama needs to hit the ground running after his inauguration. As I listened to Obama on Jan. 14 on the CBS News, I liked his optimism when he said, “Failure is never an option, not in America.”

Still, I have concerns. I hope I like Obama’s “new” America and that it still recognizes the individual, not bigger government in Washington, as the true strength of the nation. I hope this “new” America doesn’t abandon free enterprise nor discount individual initiative. I hope more of taxpayers’ money is left in their own pockets.
